Due to an increase in reported solicitations in the community, we just wanted to remind all residents (and anyone online who comes across our website) about the “No Solicitations” allowed in Princess Anne Gardens Condominiums.

Resident Information

Solicitations in the community:

  • Per our Rules on notices:
    • No sign, advertisement, notice or other lettering, painting or decoration, religious symbols or bric-a-brac shall be exhibited, inscribed, painted or affixed on any part of the outside of a Building or Limited Common Elements or in the windows of any Unit without the prior written consent of the Association
  • Unwanted placards, flyers, or menus placed on/near front doors are also a safety concern to residents. They can turn into slipping hazards when the door is opened, or if they are untouched for several days, can be an indicator that the resident is not home.
    • Please be a thoughtful neighbor and remove any placards, flyers, menus, etc. if you see them lasting for more than a few days on your neighbor’s doors.
  • The “Princess Anne Gardens Homeowners & Tenant Community” is not an officially recognized or endorsed entity by the Princess Anne Gardens Condominiums Association.

Several residents have asked about how they can get notices out to other residents, inform about scheduling community events, or perform fundraisers?

  • If you are interested in hosting a private event, community event, or fundraiser: please reach out to the Board to schedule using the Clubhouse!
  • We also have a community notice board on order!
    • Please look forward to a separate announcement, once it has been delivered and installed, about how to get your notice/poster/flyer/etc. included.

Commercial Solicitations

Our community is entirely private property with a “No Solicitations” sign posted at the entrance to the property, and this covers all residences located within our community. All commercial solicitors in Virginia Beach are subject to the Virginia Beach Code of Ordinances and must follow Section 26, Article II (Commercial Solicitations), Division 2 (Permit), Sec. 26-26 (Permit required): https://library.municode.com/va/virginia_beach/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=CO_CH26PESO_ARTIICOSO_DIV2PE_S26-26PERE

Sec. 26-26. – Permit required.

  1. It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in soliciting, selling or taking orders for goods, wares, merchandise, publications, any article for future delivery, or any service or commodity whatsoever upon the premises of any private residence, apartment house, or other place of human habitation not having been requested or invited to do so by the owner or occupant thereof, in the city, unless he has a current permit so to do from the Police Department (hereinafter “Department”).
  2. The requirements of this section shall not apply to those who sell or offer for sale in person or by their employees ice, wood, charcoal, meats, milk, butter, eggs, poultry, fish, oysters, game, vegetables, fruits or other family supplies of a perishable nature or farm products grown or produced by them and not purchased by them for sale; persons licensed by the state under Code of Virginia (1950), title 38.1, as amended; persons licensed by the Virginia Real Estate Commission, pursuant to Code of Virginia (1950), § 54-749, as amended; such activities when they are conducted on behalf of a nonprofit charitable, civic or religious organization; outdoor sales and exchanges which occur as an incidental part of the retail sales activity of a merchant regularly conducting business from a permanent building where such sales are conducted on the premises of the building and in close proximity to said building; occasional garage sales in residential areas; sales made at flea markets duly licensed by the city; or sales by wholesale merchants to retail merchants or industrial or commercial establishments.
  3. Soliciting with a valid permit upon a private residence that displays a “No Solicitation” or similar sign shall constitute a class three misdemeanor for a first offense and a class two misdemeanor for a second or subsequent offense within a twelve-month period.

Do not fight with solicitors! Residents can respectfully ask solicitors to leave. Residents are allowed to call the police if the solicitor has been asked to leave and they refuse to leave the property. The the police non-emergency number is: 757-835-5000.

*** The Board has been fighting with Verizon about this issue, on and off, for the past few years. The door-to-door workers claim their bosses have told them they are not solicitors. This is incorrect, and we have been fighting with the 3rd party company that Verizon uses for this solicitation to get them to stop.
